The Broken Clans are the remnants of the great dwarven state of Arnheim. Consisting of scattered dwarven holdings beneath the Felling Heights, these communities are connected to each other and to the city of Arnheim through miles of tunnels, caverns, and old mine shafts. Each community maintains its own government and economy, though the clans are linked by a common history and traditions.
The clans produce ores and quality metalwork, which they trade with Arnheim to get food, supplies, and goods from all over Wessen. Each year some dwarves leave their clan home to work in Arnheim or travel further afield, and they are welcomed for their skill and determination. Within these communities, however, there is little acceptance of outsiders, and there are no long-term residents other than dwarves.
There are many dwarves still alive in the clans who remember the glory days of Arnheim and resent the Andyr who conquered their capitol city. Others grudgingly acknowledge that the human occupation has provided business opportunities and access to new trade goods, while giving the clans greater autonomy.
